Collinsworth says Goodbye to City

November 25, 2007 at 8:22 pm | In DTCP, News | Leave a Comment

From the Tipp City Herald:

When Tipp City’s David Collinsworth became city manager he told his new employers that, “I would stay five or six years, but perhaps longer if things worked out.”

Well, things did work out and now after more than 10 years in the position, Collinsworth attended his last council meeting Monday evening. His official last day on the job is Dec. 1 and then he moves on to become the new Westerville Ohio City Manager. “In applying for this job, I was really looking for a professional career move and in the process, found opportunities to make new friends and serve a community that has given to me much more than good employment,” he said.

“I wasn’t on the job more than three month, for example, when I learned of the impending birth of my first child, Rachel, and before too much longer, two more would come along. And then there were car accidents, the loss of loved ones, and an ugly diagnosis – but through it all, the community (staff, council members, fellow parishioners and citizens of good will) helped us through it and provided us tremendous support. For this, I am eternally grateful,” he said.

Mayor George Lovett said the two things he judged a city manager on was his technical competence and personal skills in which he gave Collinsworth high marks. He related the first time he worked with Collinsworth was on the Airport Task Force. “Residents in Tipp City and Monroe Township were concerned that the airport’s growth plans would cause additional noise and a decrease in their property values,” Lovett said. “Dave did a superb job in working with the airport and helping to calm residents’ fears.”

Lovett said the city manager showed his technical competence with his oversight of the new Tippecanoe Family Aquatic Center and the recently completed water treatment plant which was built in partnership with the city of Vandalia…

Tippecanoe HarvestFest 2007
WOW! Thank you to the hundreds of folks that joined us Saturday night for the First Annual Tippecanoe HarvestFest Party! The weather was good (though a little brisk) and the BAND WAS AMAZING!!! Spungewurthy thrilled the crowd of an estimated 300 partygoers as we sold lots of beer, food, drinks, and quite a few T-Shirts and posters. We had several costume contests with prizes and also used the ticket stubs to raffle of a number of shirts and posters to lucky winners!

If you attended the party and took pictures and use FLICKR, use the tag “HarvestFest” so that we can all see the great (and scary) costumes. And the way a few people were dressed, they must’ve been FREEZING! Anyway, we’ll have more news, photos, and results from the Party here – check back soon!

Also. we have just a few T-shirts and posters left for sale – email us if you want one or call Matt at 667-8300. They’re going fast, so get one now in your size before they disappear – WE WILL NOT BE PRINTING ANY MORE.

Tippecanoe HarvestFest 2007
Do you know any scary stories about Tipp City? The Tippecanoe HarvestFest 2007 is gathering spooky tales for our Haunted Ghost Tours, to be held in the downtown the two weeks before Halloween. We have volunteer guides, but we still need your scariest stories! Do you know the one about the dead horse buried under the Old Post Office? What about the Spring Hill murder? Tell us your story! Is your home or building haunted? Have you experienced dread in your attic or basement? Know any REALLY spooky tales about our town? Send your ghostly stories to tippghosts@yahoo.com or call 667-6962 to share your story. If no one answers, just leave a message and we’ll call you back. Unless we’ve fallen victim to the Fiendish Ghoul of South Third Street …
